Homemakers Haven:The Thanksgiving Countdown!

by Stephanie on November 24, 2008

It is the final few days before the big feast of Thanksgiving, and that can mean a very busy week! Since the holiday season can get so hectic, let’s take some extra effort this week to make our homes a haven!

Pray

Since this week is Thanksgiving, take some time to read Scriptures on giving thanks, or thankfulness. Take some time to think about all the things we have to be thankful for. If you keep a journal, perhaps using these scripts as prompts this week will be helpful. Here are some that I have found:

1 Thessalonians 5:18   In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Philippians 4:6   Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Colossians 2:7   Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Colossians 4:2   Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

Prepare

If you are hosting, you have a lot of work to do this week! Perhaps you are attending Thanksgiving at a family or friends house and have a dish to prepare to share. Either way, preparation is the key to making your holiday go smoothly. My regular schedule will be put aside this week to be more focused on things like cleaning, organization, shopping and cooking on a grander scale. What are you doing to prepare for Thanksgiving? What makes it less stressful for you?

Plan

As I mentioned before, my regular weekly plans will be changed to focus on getting ready to open my home to 20 or so people for the holiday. I will be keeping lists to help me stay organized, such as:

A grocery list for the big meal

A simple meal plan for the week to save my energy for the big cooking day!

What I can do each day to prepare

Who is bringing what to dinner etc.

My goal is to alleviate stress and really enjoy this festive time! I want my guests to come into a home that radiates peace and love, not stress and tension!

Progress

I have some pretty key things to get done this week:

Clean out oven

Clean out refrigerator

Clean entire house

Grocery shopping

Make ahead cooking : mashed potatoes, rolls, and sweet potato casserole are on my list!

What will you be working on today to prepare for Thanksgiving? I would love to hear about it. If you posted about it on your blog, please share with us by placing your link below, or leave it in the comments section!

Stephanie, this is a beautiful post. It really helped me put things into perspective and priority. I tried to link up last Monday, but I didn’t see your post up. Maybe I didn’t look at the right time. I’ll try again tomorrow and I hope to see you at my blog tomorrow! Thanks again for your participation. It makes my blog a better place!
