This is my youngest son (and only boy), Eric. He is a boatload of energy and he keeps all of us laughing!
This year he is in first grade, and homeschooling him has been a challenge for me. He isn’t like my older girls, who gobbled up readers and work books, who sat patiently and waited until I gave the next instruction, who would entertain themselves quietly while I worked with the other child.
No, when Eric is at the table, he is there. There is no mistaken his presence. He writes three sentences and insists his hand is going to fall off. If I leave the room to go to the bathroom, his attention span is gone. He tries to short cut every assignment. Homeschooling him means I am at the table, directing him, for the entire 3 hours he is in school (we are working on this though!)
The other day, we were having a great day. He was working hard, being diligent, writing neatly. He had his chores all done in record time (thanks to our timer method), and I was beaming with pride that my little chap was finally getting this school thing down.
I began to lavish praise on my sweet boy, telling him what good work he was doing and how proud I was. He looked up at me, pausing for a moment from his diligence, and said “Yes mom, today I am letting my professional side come out” and went right back to work.
Ah, the finer moments in life can be found in a child!

Leslie,
Having a boy vs. girls is like night and day! Both wonderful blessings though, just very different!
Oh yeah, that smile has been around for a while now! We tell him to smile “normal” for pictures and that is what we get LOL!
And did he give you that grin (in the picture) when he said it?! Clever, super cute, professional student you have there.
Brilliant, just brilliant!
I’m sure this is what I’m in for with my 3. I keep thinking they might conform and sit still like girls do, but my oldest is 9 and I’m giving up hope. (just kidding, but it is definitely different teaching them)
That is adorable! Isn’t it wonderful when our children grasp something valuable?
Wow , that IS impressive.
