My kids love rocks. They will spend hours outside digging up rocks and then rushing to come show me “The coolest one ever!”.
Decorating with the coolest rocks ever is one of the finer things in life, isn’t it?
They may just be rocks to you, but to me they are so much more! Maybe only a mommy with a little boy would understand
For great frugal fun, pull out some sidewalk chalk and watch the creativity come out!
I love to watch how different boys and girls play. The little girls are busy making gifts for mom or pretty decorations.
And the boys are building bombs!

That’s a great idea to let them ‘decorate’ their rocks! DH seems to have forgotten what it’s like to be a little boy with ‘collections.’ My two love to collect as many rocks as they can carry when we go for walks along the berm behind our house. I call their little pile (on the outside of our fence) their “rock garden” to give it some importance. I bet they’d love the decorating idea. Might pull this one out the next time I’m seeking one of those “why don’t you go play outside?” breaks!

New to your site…I have three boys that I school…I think that rocks to boys are as flowers to girls. I collect pretty rocks so you can just imagine how many rocks we get on my kitchen counter. A boquet! l love adding the chalk! I’ll try tomorrow!

So true! Kids love rocks. Yesterday we were all in the creek when I heard the kids get all excited about a rock they found. Rachel claimed it and said she was going to save it. I looked at that rock and couldn’t figure out for the life of me just what was so special about that rock that all the kids got that excited. Your post reminded me of that!

We have an ever growing collection of rocks. They painted some the other day – I never would have thought of chalking them. This will be used soon! Thank you for the ideaand linking to Kid Friendly Friday!

Oh how true, my son would definitely build a bomb and my daughter would insist we use it as a decoration some how.

My granddaughter had this thing about rocks as well. Whenever we went for a walk, I’d come home with my pockets full of those, ‘I really, really need this one, Nana’ , rocks

Love the flower rock! Just today I was cleaning out my six-year-old daughter’s bookbag which contained an acorn and some other unnamed “berry” – not rocks, but close!!

That sure rings true here. My 9 yo dd has collected cool rocks and shells for years. Her closet is full of boxes of them. They are neat reminders of past vacations and field trips too. Paint works great on rocks as well.

What a wonderful post. My boys cherrish their rock collection as much as their mama did when she was a wee lassie.

Rocks are so much fun. I live in an area where we have no soil but what we do have is rocks
My boys also enjoy looking for the most unusual one they find and bring them back. In a yellow bucket it goes.
Thank you so much for sharing

What is it about rocks? My boys love them too! We can’t go anywhere without them checking out the rocks. They also love the rocks that you can buy at travel type gift shops-you know. the ones that you fill in a bag? We are heading to Alaska this summer. I can only imagine how many rocks we will come home with! I love the idea of chalk on them.
