Dinner In A Pinch:Assembly Line Grilled Cheese!

by Stephanie on April 7, 2009

I planned on making a pot roast for dinner last night. I was already running late and when I began to get it ready for the oven it was still slightly frozen. Uh oh! It was a rainy, cold night so I thought grilled cheese and leftover ham sounded good. So here is my assembly line grilled cheese:

Melt the butter:

Lay out the ingredients:

Brush the bread slices with the melted butter:

Place the bread, cheese and ham (if using) in preheated skillet:

Put the top slice on and grill until golden brown. Voila! Dinner in a pinch is served (with some tater tots on the side):

When I was feeding 3 teenage boys (with bottomless stomachs) I would brush butter on one side of the bread, place on cookie sheet, put on cheese and ham or turkey, butter the top slice and put it on top (butter side up), then broil. Watch the sandwiches closely, when the top starts to brown up; flip and finish on that side. They loved them, and I could make 7 at a time….I certainly didn’t have a pan or skillet large enough to do that LOL

I love grilled cheese. I have never thought about adding ham. Sounds like a good idea for dinner tonight! :) Lana

We loved grilled cheese, with tomato soup. I never thought to melt the butter and brush it on! What a great idea. Definitely doing this ‘next time.’

we do this each time we make grilled cheese. Have you ever had pepperoni and cheese grilled cheese?

An American Classic! I love the bonding that ‘accidentally’ happens during assembly line cooking :)

I like the idea of using melted butter for grilled cheese.

I’ve never used the melted butter before! I always just take a knife and slather some butter on the bread! LOL! I love grilled cheese on a chilly night…with a bowl of tomato soup! Can’t beat it! :)
