Making Your Home A Haven Week of April 26, 2009

Welcome to another beautiful Monday morning! We had a busy but exciting weekend with some beautiful weather to enjoy!

Our son had his opening baseball game, which had us at the ball field almost all day Saturday. Then my parents arrived home on Sunday after spending the winter in Florida. It is amazing how I feel complete when they are home, like life is finally back to normal. I don’t know about you, but talking on the phone just isn’t the same! I can’t wait to spend lots of time with them catching up from our winter apart.

Are you ready to make your home a haven this week? I know I am. We have decided to do some “light” home schooling this week to allow us some time to be with my parents and hopefully get some basement organizing and cleaning done. We have a field trip this week, a baseball practice and two games, and Bible study so it is going to be a busy week! All the more reason to be organized!

Remember the 4 P’s? Prayer, Planning, Prioritizing and Progress. Here is my basic plan for this week:

::Prayer- I am doing a self study on spiritual warfare using this book. Each morning I read and do the study, and spend time praying over areas that I feel are strongholds in our lives right now.

::Prioritize- My morning routine is in need of some adjusting since we are winding down for the school year and adding some morning walks to our day. I plan on adjusting this routine this week, and most likely tweaking it a few more times before it works!

::Planning- (see how I plan for my week here) Menu plan is done, grocery shopping is done, calendar has been filled in, to do list made out, so all that is left to plan are my goals for the week. Here are todays list of to do’s:

*Weekly goal planning

*3 loads of laundry-wash, dry, put away

*Change flannel sheets to regular sheets on all beds

*Make homemade hot pockets

*Dinner done by noon

*Spend ½ hour in basement

*Visit parents in the afternoon

*Walk with children

*Set goals for rest of school year

::Progress- My two major areas I need to progress in this week are eating healthy and counting calories (I am trying to lose weight), exercise, and organize/clean my basement. The piles in the basement are growing, and growing, and growing. I can’t take it anymore! I also want to have a yard sale in the next few weeks, so I am trying to get everything sorted, priced and organized.

That’s my homemaking plan for the week, how about you?

After a lot of thought and a few weeks time, I have decided to cancel the Homemakers Haven weekly feature on this blog and join in with Tammy’s feature “Making Your Home A Haven“, as well as some other fun Monday homemaking memes that are around the blogosphere (like this one, and this one) as I am able!  I do however have a fun new feature that I will be starting instead. Stay tuned for details! Happy Homemaking!

Hi , Stephanie. I’m going to miss your Homemaker’s Haven. But, I can understand having to back out of a few things when you have a young family to care for. To update you on the household notebook….I’ve had to go clear back to ‘basics’. LOL A simple ‘week at a glance’; followed by Daily Dockets (which I found from a link you had posted earlier). That seems to be working out pretty well for me. I thought I’d had the zones down, and they looked great on paper…but then real life working them WASN’T working LOL. So, maybe zones will develop over time as I keep track of how I manage the house.

I did finally realise after about 3 weeks of UNmotivation…my problem was simply the house was still shut up tight for winter, plastic on some of the windows and I couldn’t have enough sunlight or fresh air moving through. Solved that issue last night and it’s already made a dramatic difference.

Like the other ladies who’ve responded to this post, I am waiting patiently for the homemade hot pockets recipe LOL I know the hubs will love that one.

I’m currently working on redoing my home management binder. It’s going great!! Now I just have to finfish laundry for today and get kids started on weekly scripture memory verse. Dinner is out and ready to be cooked. I think I’ll start some beans in the crock pot for tomorrow. I’ll finish org my bedroom this week and my office. Wish me luck!!!
