How Does Your Garden Grow?: With Some Sun, Very Well!

by Stephanie on June 18, 2009

I was getting a little worried this past week with the days and days of rain we had. That was my garden dilemma last summer, and almost everything either rotted or died. But we got some bursts of sunshine here and there these past few days, so I think we will be ok!

I was finally able to get out and do some weeding, too. With the ground so wet, it was pretty easy to do. I will have to remember that!

We got our first harvest of Spring Mix lettuce and spinach this week! I was so excited!

We have been enjoying scallions and spinach from her garden for the past two weeks. Fresh garden veggies are SO good!

We have a few little bugs enjoying our veggies too. To deter them, my  my organic gardening book that I love so much recommends mixing 1 cup of water with 1/4 cup of dish soap together and put into a spray bottle. Spray directly on affected plants 2-3 days for two weeks. Here is a link to a great article that has dozens of other natural ways to treat pests. If you have any others, please leave them in the comments section!

So how does your garden grow?

Your vegie patch looks great! Yes, weeding is MUCH easier if the ground has had a good soaking rain :)

I’ve been using that soap combo but we’ve added garlic “juice” to it. And I planted some marigolds this week too…(thanks to your last garden post). I just have such a HUGE garden to spray that my hand cramps up quick. I guess better that than buggie veggie, huh?

Hey Stephanie, thank you for the link to the natural pesticides! We are having problems right now with cabbage worms. They’re nibbling away on all 27 of my cabbages that are left! Grrr! :)
I always enjoy looking at everyone’s garden pics and posts! Thanks for hosting this. :)
