Let It Snow

by Stephanie on December 11, 2009

We got our first official snow storm the other day. A foot or so of snow fell here in Maine. I was hoping winter would forget about us us this year, but I guess it remembered!

You see, I am just not a winter person. I am not really into outdoor activities in the freezing cold. Give me summer sun and I am outside as soon as I can be. But when those temperatures drop, I hibernate like a black bear.

There are some things about winter that I do love, even if it means that it will take 20 minutes to get  all bundled up in layers of clothing (only to have one child mention they have to potty as soon as  you zip up the last layer, or is that just my kids?). It isn’t as easy as throwing on some flip flops but there are some things I do love, such as:

Cold, red winter cheeks. Somehow they are extra kissable.

Serving up steaming mugs of hot cocoa after a day of playing in the snow. Only on snow days can you have multiple cups of hot cocoa.

I love homemade snowman made by little hands gracing the yard.

And there is just something peaceful about freshly fallen snow.

It makes the dull winter landscape look bright again.

It makes everything become still and quiet.

It often makes you pause during a busy holiday season to take in its beauty.

Maybe snow is the Lord’s gentle reminder of Him.

Quiet. Peace. Stillness. Beauty.

Perhaps winter is a finer thing after all.

What a lovely post! Being from the south, I would love to have a winter with a lot of snow. It definitely is a magical moment when the flakes start to fall!

I just recently blogged about our first snow of the season too! I love celebrating with our children on the first snowy day of the season! :) Lovely pictures you posted!

We got our first snow about 10 days ago, but it was just a couple of inches. Nothing like the 19 inches we got last MARCH. That was craziness!

Massachusetts here!!
I am in hibernation mode myself—even though we have only had an inch or two of snow so far (which the rain washed away).

Give me 70 degrees any day. However, the kids LOVE it. It’s precious how white flakes coming down from the sky can be so magical to them. To them it means snowman, snow angles and hot chocolate. To me it means icy roads, wet boots and cold. Maybe with our first big snow storm I will try to look at it through my childrens eyes (I still won’t go outside though : )-
